Location: Lilla Karlsö, Gotland

Lilla Karlsö was formed during the Silurian era, about 400 million years ago. At that time, the present Gotland was quite close to the equator where it consisted of several large coral reefs and lagoons in a shallow tropical ocean. It was rich in organisms such as shells, mosses, molluscs, trilobites and mushrooms of which fossils are clearly visible in many places around the island.
