When I saw this installation I was caught by its beauty and dreamy colours so I wanted to share it with you here on Architerior!
This installation can be found at the shoe store Melissa in NYC and is inspired by their 2015 collection called Star Walker. The installation is made of crystalline and gives the store a cool feature for marketing their new collection name. I really think it does resemble an icy star!
The mind behind “Crystallized” is SOFTlab, a New York based design studio specializing in installations. They describe the installation as a way of turning the store into a kaleidoscope of colour and light, a beautiful description that might well be true. The structure is provided with light from within, so it casts coloured light at the walls around it. The rather large piece was put together in the store, using many flat labelled pieces made at another location – a giant puzzle you could say!
“Crystals are both highly refined structures and yet primitive. They can be found everywhere, but are anything but ordinary. Much like the shoes in Melissa’s Sky Walker collection, the ordered asymmetry of crystalline structures always inspires beauty. Inspired by both the shoes and crystals, we have produced an immersive installation that looks different from every angle.” – SOFTlab
