Alla Unrau: Art is vital

German artist Alla Unrau shared some thoughts on her art, talked about what she’s working on right now, and what’s to come in the future.

How did your art career start?

I think my art interest started unconsciously when I first was introduced to brushes and paper 🙂 My actual art career started in 2015 after I decided to publish my art online.

When did you know that you were meant to be working with art?

I have been a creative soul since I was a little child. I always knew that I wanted to share my art with other artists and people.

Where do you live and practice?

I live in Germany at the moment. I paint daily from my own little studio at home which allows me to paint at any time of the day.

Describe your art style: materials, forms, colours. Do you have preferences?

I paint mostly abstract, primarily using acrylics and watercolour. I enjoy both very much and can’t choose a favourite.  I also like to use pens and pastels; they create a little spark and uniqueness to the painting. The art process is about combining different textures and colours using layers of paint. I’m a lover of trying out new things and experiment with new tools that cross my hands. The things that we have at home can be very useful 🙂

What does art mean to you?

Art is vital. It’s like food for the soul and I can’t picture my life without papers, brushes and the messy floor.

What are you working on right now?

Currently I am working on 7 paintings. Some of them are little pieces for children. I’m also trying myself out in abstract collage.

What inspires you to create? Where do you get ideas and energy?

Everything around me inspires me and gives me new ideas. My biggest inspiration is nature or the extreme opposite like big cities. Ever since I was a little child I saw the world around me different, brighter and more in depth. And of course other artists inspire me too.

What are your goals regarding your art?

My goal is to make people happy with my art. Each painting is personal and important to me, sharing it is a wonderful experience. I want the world to see and recognize colours and the work and love artists put into a painting.

Do you have any artists/art styles that you admire extra much?

I’m a fan of everything that is vibrant, colourful and noticeable.  I really enjoy Miranda Scoszek’s art. She changed my view of abstract art.

Have you ever exhibited your artwork?

I have not had any exhibitions yet. I’m at the beginning of my art career and plan my first exhibition by the end of this year. I would love to spread my art around all over the world and have many exhibitions. That would be a dream come true.
